This has been a tough year. Ranger School has kept Mike away most of the year thus far, our fertility struggles have made the time together a little less than blissful, and a deployment is looming. I'm happy to report that Mike is on the last leg of his Ranger School journey and is doing well despite being down a few pounds. I can't wait to see him in a couple weeks at graduation. We are also glad to be on the last leg of our journey to baby.
This particular road has not been freshly paved for us. It's more like a country road in the mountains.
Long. Uphill. Dirt. Gravel. Unavoidable potholes. Unexpected turns.
Turns we didn't think we would need to take to make it to the top.
The wonderful thing about an old country road is where it can lead. This summer while visiting my family, we went down such a road. It was a blistering hot July day, and we needed to find a cool spot. My baby brother knew just the place. We loaded up the car with a picnic and camp chairs and headed into the mountains. We hit a gravel, curvy, pothole road and followed the river deeper and deeper into the woods. I never thought we'd get there, but my little brother kept saying, "keep driving, just a little further, we're almost there."
He was right. My family found sanctuary that July day in a beautiful swimming hole. And would you believe the outside temperature was twenty degrees cooler than at home? It was peaceful and welcoming. The perfect spot in God's creation, and we would have missed out if we didn't keep driving.
Today, Mike and I are almost to that perfect spot in our journey to becoming parents. The place we are headed is beautiful, and we can't wait to get there. Today I am blessed to say that I am NOT pregnant. I may never be pregnant. That's okay because, as God promised me, I will be a mommy soon. We are on our way to our baby, and I don't want to be on any other road. I want to keep driving, just a little further. We're almost there.
Please join us on our journey.
